How
long do I have to pay my ticket and complete the course?
In Florida you have 30 days to
contact the Clerk of Courts in the county in which you
received your citation. You must either pay the fine,
ask for an extension or let them know you are going to
court to fight your case. After you pay your ticket you
have 60 days in some counties and 90 days in other
counties to complete your course and submit your course completion
certificate. For verification of compliance, check with the Clerks office in that
county.

for office locations.
IMPORTANT:
After you receive your certificate of completion of the
defensive driving course, you must show proof of
completion to the Clerk of Court's office in the county
in which you received your ticket.
If you elect
the court appearance: Inform the Clerk of Court in
the county where you received the citation, that you
are requesting a court hearing. The Clerk's Office will assign you
a court date. The court may find you guilty, assess
points, impose a civil penalty, require you to attend
traffic school, or all of the above. Your insurance
rates may increase or your policy may be canceled.
If I have been to traffic school before can I go again?
You can only
elect to attend a point reduction class one time in a 12
month period (calculated from the date of your traffic
violation and not by calendar year) and five times in
your life time (Florida Statutes, 318.14(9)). Exceptions include Broward County and Miami-Dade County
where you may be able to complete an 8 hour course in the
same year if you have already taken a 4-Hour course
during that year. A judge may also approve on a case
by case basis
click here. If the courts send you to school that
does not count as one of your elect times. You can
attend as often as you like for refresher information
and safety updates. If you are not sure if you are
eligible you may get a copy of your driving
record which will provide you that information.

What are the benefits of taking a
driver improvement course?
When you take an approved driver improvement class as a
result of an applicable traffic violation, the violation
is included on your driver record as "adjudication
withheld"
(Florida Statutes,
318.14(9)):
- No points are
assessed against your driver's license
- Civil
fine/penalty may be reduced up to 18%
- Your Safe
Driver status is maintained (as long as there was no
traffic accident involved)
- Your insurance
company cannot raise your premium or refuse to renew
a policy for motor vehicle insurance (solely because
of a non-criminal traffic infraction) when there was
no traffic accident involved. Exceptions
are when you: have a second infraction within 18
months, have a third infraction within 36 months, or
exceed the speed limit by more than 15 miles per
hour.
What do I do if the website is
not working properly?
If the pages are not working or not loading properly,
you should shut down your computer totally and reboot
and try again. Usually these situations are caused by
your Internet Service Provider or excessive web traffic.
If you still have a problem you can call customer
support at 1-800-771-2255.
Must I register with a school in
the same county I received my ticket?
No, you can register and
take a course in any county in the State of Florida or
online. However you must pay your ticket and turn in
your course completed certificate to the county in which
you received your ticket. Be sure you register with a State Certified
School.
